Today starts our 40 Days of Praying Promises For Our Children. (See how to join the challenge at the end.)
I just watched the video for today and was encouraged. I found it interesting that a soon to be empty-nester was the first to share. Her encouraging words about adult children and God’s promises with respect to them was a blessing. I have sons, 24 and 10. I pray for them daily, but I have weekly prayers that I pray that are rooted in scripture that cover nearly every aspect of their lives. While I am a praying mother, I admit, that the oldest can sometimes be concerning. Not because he’s necessarily doing anything that is concerning, but because when children become adults you lose control. I always wonder if I’ve done enough. Did I put enough seed into the soil of his heart and mind? If I came up short, what will happen to him? What paths will he choose? You can’t protect or direct adult children in the same way you can the youngers. And I think most of us wouldn’t be being honest if we said we didn’t like having that control, but I am reminded of three things. First, that God is sovereign and His word does not return void (Isaiah 55:10-11 NLT). Ever. My second reminder is the word tells us that the effectual, fervent prayer of the righteous availeth much (James 5:16). So, even if there were prayers that I didn’t know to pray for him when he was younger, my prayers on THIS day have just as much power. And thirdly, there are gifts from God that make everything okay no matter what. They are His love and His grace. His grace is sufficient (2 Corinthians 12:9). His love covers a multitude of faults (1 Peter 4:8). So you see – God’s got it covered no matter how little or much I’ve done. I know better, so I do better, but Jesus stands in the gap at all times and in all seasons including those seasons when I didn’t know what to pray. It’s hard to conceive that it’s possible, but He loves my children more than I do.
I will continue to pray and believe and trust what I know to be true. What were your thoughts from this week’s video? What are your thoughts about prayer?
Don’t know what video I’m talking about? Join us for 40 Days of Praying Promises for Our Children with one of my favorite bloggers. Arabah Joy at this link. http://arabahjoy.com/challenge/
